Works-For-Me: Land’s End Backpacks
Today’s Works-For-Me Wednesday is the brand loyal edition. I’m not typically a brand loyal person. I always like to find good deals, regardless of brands. One item where brand matters to me, though, is backpacks for my kids.
The first year Liz was in school, I bought her a cheap backpack from Walmart. It fell apart by the end of the year. For first grade, I bought her a slightly more expensive backpack from Target. It fell apart by the end of the year. For second grade I bought her a backpack with wheels (very important to her that year), also from Target. That was the worst one of all. Liz was on a hike with her class, and the entire wheel apparatus fell apart. Not good.
Someone suggested I check out backpacks from Land’s End. I was hesitant to spend $30 on a backpack for an 8 year old, but I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did. Liz’s pink Land’s End backpack looks almost brand new after an entire year’s worth of use. For the first time, I did not have to buy a new backpack this year.
From now on, my children’s backpacks will only come from Land’s End!

I got so sick of my Lands End backpack after 8 years of HS and college that I finally had to give it to Good Will and get a Lands End Messenger bag which I still have some 15 years later! These are investments!

Hmmm… I was going to get my kids Jan Sport ones because their Wal-Mart ones fell apart. I had a Jan Sport back in the day and it was pretty durable. Maybe I should look into Land’s End.

I LOVE Lands End products. Last year I bought cheap backpacks at Ross or Marshalls. 3 of the 5 fell apart. This year I bought a more expensive one for my oldest (Costco). We’ll see if it lasts. I keep meaning to splurge and get them from Lands End. Thanks for the encouragement to do so.
On the other hand, my kids like having a fresh look each year so maybe it’s not too bad to buy one yearly (if it’s not too pricey).

I’m so amazed. Only 30 dollars? Wow!
We can’t buy a good quality backpack for that amount of money here. It’s at least double to get something that lasts longer than a year to school.
Have a happy wednesday!

I agree with you. My kids used their high end backpacks all through highschool and could still use them now for college and trips…
I haven’t bought another backpack for years…

I totally agree about Lands End bookbags. As all 3 of my kids entered High School - they got one. My daughter graduated 3 years ago and it has made it through 4 years of high school - 2 months in africa and so far - 2 years of college. My oldest son also hasn’t been able to destroy his, also after 4 years of HS, 2 missions trips and now college. My youngest got his from ebay and it’s destined to last through a least another 4 years - after he graduates from HS this year.
They are worth every single penny!!!

My oldest’s backpack had holes in it by the end of last year - we’ll see how the (cheap) ones we got the older two this year hold up… We’ll probably be looking into Lands End ones next year though!

Save your receipts! Lands’ End honors their guarantee. Our Ergo packs were purchased 7 years ago. One had a rip in the mesh (son’s fault) and the other had the back support pop out the top. Both were still completely functional and looked great. The boys wanted new ones, though. So, we sent them back and received $119.09 credit. Now the boys are trying to decide whether to order the Classmate, Collegiate, or a new Ergo. Will never buy backpacks anywhere else!
