Works-For-Me: Homemade Cranberry Sauce
I grew up with canned cranberry sauce, so when I first started hosting Thanksgiving dinners as an adult, I just went to the store and got the cans of Ocean Spray cranberry sauce. Last year I decided to stretch myself though, and I made homemade cranberry sauce. Now, I’m not the greatest cook in the world, so it’s always scary when I try a new recipe…especially on a holiday.
I have to tell you, though, this recipe for cranberry sauce is fabulous, and I think it would be really hard to mess up. After all, it turned out great for me. :) I’m never going back to canned cranberry sauce again!
Cranberry Sauce
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 (12 oz) package cranberries
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, dissolve the sugars in the orange juice and water. Stir in the cinnamon and cranberries. Cook until cranberries start to pop (about 10 minutes). Remove from heat and transfer to a bowl. Cranberry sauce will thicken as it cools. Can be made a day ahead.

I’m saving this one. Everyone in my family laughs at me because I ALWAYS bring a can of cranberry sauce to Thanksgiving dinner in case someone else forgets it! It’s a MUST HAVE! LOL! And I’ll bet this homemade kind is even better!

I love homemade cranberry sauce, but my husband is totally stuck on the canned! How crazy is that?
