Could Huckabee Win?

MikeHuckabee.com - I Like Mike!

Last year when people asked who I’d likely vote for in the next presidential election, I didn’t have an answer. The big three who would likely run were Rudi Guiliani, Mitt Romney, and John McCain. I wasn’t too thrilled with the choices. I prayed for a better option.

Earlier this year I heard of Mike Huckabee. I asked my husband about him, and Jim said he liked Huckabee, but he didn’t think he was electable. I did some research on the candidates. And my decision was made. In good conscience I couldn’t support the three front runners. So I decided that if Mike Huckabee was in the running by the Oregon primary, that’s who I would vote for.

Besides the fact that I agree with his positions on all the issues that are important to me, Huckabee is running a very positive campaign. I’ve liked his witty and intelligent responses in the debates. And it doesn’t hurt that Chuck Norris endorses him. :) So, I’ve had my eye on him.

And then I started to notice. People were starting to blog about him. I started seeing “I Like Mike” buttons on sidebars of several of the blogs I read. I told my husband to watch. That Huckabee was gaining momentum, and the mainstream media had it wrong. I thought Huckabee was electable, and not only that, I thought he’d have a real surge that took the mainstream media by surprise.

And that’s what’s happened. In one poll, Huckabee is the front runner in Iowa. In another poll, he’s within a percentage point of Hillary, the closest any candidate comes to surpassing her. And he’s gaining momentum.

I’ve got my eye on this election. America is ready for a change, it seems. I’m not certain the change they’re looking for has to do with political party. I think it has to do with politics. People are sick of politicians making slick promises, only to forget them once they get into office. People are sick of negative ads.

I think Huckabee’s positive campaign and likability set him apart from the rest of the candidates, both Republican and Democratic. And I think that’s why he’s a force to be reckoned with. That’s the kind of change America is looking for.

I thank you and others who are bringing these candidates up for discussion, at least at my house. I don’t want to just go vote for a popular candidate, but, for one who has the whole package. I am learning more about Huckabee- thanks to you and others! And, am starting to really like him as my choice, too. I have until Feb to decide!

I guess it all depends on who he will pick to run with him…this race will definitely be one of the more interesting ones in a long time!

Here’s a nice tool to compare how the candidates stand on issues important to you…it’s hard to keep them straight on your own..at least it was for me!

I’ve been paying attention to this race as well and my research and reading the blogs like yours sure points to Huckabee as well. I wasnt sure of his electability either, but his surge in the polls of late is huge and the media is noticing big time. One political person guessed that it would be Giuliani and Huckabee as the VP. That isn’t my favorite scenario, but I wonder. But prayer works, and I pray Huckabee continues to gain favor.

I will say, I have heard of Mike Huckabee as I used to live in Arkansas. I really didn’t know much about him. I will look into him a little more. Living in Germany I only hear about Hillary, as the Europeans love Hillary. I am not her biggest fan from living in Arkansas. But the whole Churck Norris thing has been quite the scream as far as endorements go. Beyond what Barbara Streisand for Hillary has done and even Ophrah for Obama. This race is very interesting.

“I like Mike!” Do you think it will work as well as, “I like Ike?”

I like him, too. I haven’t read quite enough to be firm on who I will be voting for, but I do like him so far!

Great post, Lynnae! Did you read my post on One Mom’s View about voting in the primary! I firmly believe that if we vote our conscience instead of believing the media and polls, we’ll get the right guy. (Mike Huckabee, of course!)

@Sarah - I did see that. And our local Christian radio station just did a program this morning saying the same thing. The primaries are a time to vote for the person who best represents your values. And Huckabee is the man for me!
