As the trip out west begins to teach her to survive on her own, she resolves to make her own living as a seamstress when the train finally reaches Oregon.

But despite Toni’s conviction that no man will be able to see beyond her marred past, Sam Two-feathers, the wagon scout and acting preacher for the train seems to know of a love that forgives sins and values much more than outward appearances. Will Sam have the confidence to declare his love? Will Toni be able to trust in a God that can forgive even the darkest past? Faith, love, and courage will be put to the test in Distant Heart.

As part of the Fall Into Reading Challenge, I read Summer* by Karen Kingsbury. We won’t talk about how far behind I am on the challenge.

I’ve been a fan of Karen Kingsbury’s ever since I read the Redemption Series. I just love the way Kingsbury weaves biblical truths into her stories.

Summer* is the second book in the Sunrise series. The story picks up with Ashley Baxter Blake and her sister Kari both pregnant and due near the same time. They look forward to their babies becoming the best of friends. When it’s time for ultrasounds, however, one of the sisters finds out something is terribly wrong.

Meanwhile, newlyweds Katy Hart and Dayne Matthews sign on for a reality TV show in an attempt to get the paparazzi off their backs. But is this really a good idea? Will it backfire?

Finally high-schooler Baily Flanigan’s friendship with Cody Coleman is deepening, possibly into something more. But sadness lies ahead for the twosome, as Cody plans to join the armed forces at the end of the summer.

I loved this book, because the characters go through real life struggles of Christians. Three different sets of people in three different stages of life face sometimes seemingly unsurmountable obstacles and challenges to their faith. Karen Kingsbury weaves the grace of God into the story, and demonstrates that even though our faith isn’t always perfect, God’s grace and plan is.

If you’ve liked Karen Kingsbury’s previous books, you’ll like this one. It’s not deep reading by any means, but it’s a nice story that you could easily read in a couple of days.

This would have been simply another dark and strange coincidence, the sort of thing that shows up for a two-minute report on the local news–with live remote from the scene–and maybe gets a follow-up the next day. Eventually the story would go away, fading from the city’s collective memory.

But this story did not go away. Not for me. Because Jacqueline Dwyer was the woman I was going to marry.

In this fast-paced thriller, lawyer Ty Buchanan must enter a world of evil to uncover the cause of his fiancee’s death–even if hie has to kill for the truth.

I’m so excited about this! I’ve recently joined the Christian Fiction Blog Alliance! They’re a group of bloggers who promote Christian fiction. Since I LOVE to read, and I LOVE Christian fiction, this group is a natural fit for me. So every week, you can expect me to introduce you to a Christian fiction book. Are you ready for the first book? I thought so!

About the Author

Robert is an award-winning author of over a thousand published articles and short stories. He is currently a contributing editor for New Man magazine.
