Giveaway: Disciplines of a Godly Woman

January 28, 2008

Photobucket

It’s wintertime. The weather is cold and dreary, and I just want to stay inside and curl up with a good book and a hot cup of coffee. With that in mind, I’m giving away a book as part of the Bloggy Giveaways carnival.

I’m giving away my personal copy of Disciplines of a Godly Woman by Barbara Hughes. This is a fantastic book if you are interested in walking more closely with the Lord. Sections of the book focus on your soul, your character, your relationships, your ministry, and grace. Specific chapters include The Discipline of Prayer, The Discipline of Contentment, and the Discipline of Giving, among many others.

Disciplines of a Godly WomanSince this is my personal copy of the book, it isn’t brand new. The cover has a couple of creases, but otherwise it is in very good condition. I highly, highly recommend this book!

This giveaway is open to anyone with a mailing address, both in the United States and internationally. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post. Only one comment per person, please. Duplicate comments will be deleted. I will close the comments at noon on Friday, February 1 and draw a winner using a random number generator at random.org.

Make sure you leave a valid email address in the comment form below, as that’s how I will be contacting the winner. Don’t worry. The only person who will be able to see your email address is me, and I don’t spam, nor do I give away the email addresses of my readers.

Best of luck! I’ll post the winner sometime Friday or Saturday. And to find more great giveaways, visit bloggygiveaways.com!

Looking Back

Deb at Mom of 3 Girls tagged me to review my most popular posts each month in 2007. It’s going to be a partial year review, because I started this blog in May of last year. Deciding which posts were most popular is going to be a little bit subjective, because I didn’t start tracking my stats right away, so I don’t really have much to go on. But, in my opinion, here they are. My most popular posts of 2007.

May - Thoughts on Politics and the Church. In reality, I didn’t have any popular posts that month, but I enjoyed writing this one.

June - A Letter to My Husband. I wrote this right before our 12th anniversary. He still carries it around in his car. Since this post, I stopped using a pseudonym for my husband. His real name is Jim. Don’t let the Shannon bit throw you. :)

July - My most popular post was actually a giveaway, but that’s boring, so I’ll link you to my second most popular post: Thank You, Mom.

August - An Open Letter to My Daughter. It seems that I wrote to everyone in my family last year.

September - The Many Faces of Motherhood.

October - What I would do if I were on Survivor. That was a lot of fun to write.

November - We have a tie! Wordless Wednesday: Morning Cloudburst and Works for Me: Thanksgiving Journal.

December - Of Libraries and Hot Wheels Cars. One of my commentators called this story a love signal from God. I think that’s pretty accurate.

So there you have it. The best of the best of From Under the Clutter last year. Thanks for making me look back, Deb!

And one more announcement, before I leave you to have a good weekend. I’m doing another giveaway at Lynnae’s Bookshelf! Leave a comment on this post for a chance to win!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

A Meme and Some Awards

December 8, 2007

I have a whole lot of stuff to catch up on this weekend! First up, I was tagged with the “What Did You Accomplish This Week” meme by Mommy Gets Paid. She actually tagged me at my other blog, but I’m a little backlogged with posts over there, so I thought I’d answer the meme over here. So here goes.

1. What did you accomplish this past week? Well, I tweaked the design of Being Frugal.net to my satisfaction. I actually got ahead on blog posts for once. I closed an advertising deal at Being Frugal.net. And I managed to make mashed potatoes, fudge, and peanut butter fudge for my family’s Christmas party tonight.

2. Did anything not go as expected? I don’t know if there’s anything as expected in my life right now, so you might say the whole week was unexpected. :)

3. What was the highlight of your week? My husband got a call from our local Christian radio station yesterday, asking if he wanted to work part-time as the sports person. My husband lost his job in October, and working for the Christian radio station has been a big dream of his. He’s worked there in the past, but not recently. So, this will either be something fun for him, while he’s looking for a full time job, or it might work into something more permanent. You never know about these things!

4. Did anything exciting happen that you did not expect? See number three. Also, I wasn’t expecting the advertising deal, so the extra money was pretty exciting. :)

Now I’m supposed to tag five people, but it’s getting late at night (yes, I’m writing this on Friday night), and I haven’t gotten to the awards yet. So if you read this, you’re tagged. And let me know if you participate.

Now on to the awards.

Bloggers With Integrity
A while back Jenny, Live and in Color blessed me with the Bloggers With Integrity Award for staying true to my beliefs. I really consider this a great honor, because integrity means a great deal to me. Thank you, Jenny! And now I will pass it on to someone for each of the 5 categories of the award.

  • For Creativity: Melody from Slurping Life and Wrapped Emotions. Melody is always coming up with creative projects, and her photography is amazing!
  • For the Spirit of Giving: Heather from God’s Grace in Practice. She is always talking about giving to others, even in hard times.
  • For Staying True to Your Beliefs: Julie at the Surrendered Scribe. She has written many great posts about her beliefs, and I really admire her faith.
  • For Social Conscience: Min the Gap for trying to make a difference in our society, especially in the area of modesty.
  • Keeping it Real: Becky at A Walk Through the Valley. Her whole blog is about keeping it real!

You Lift Me Up
Next, I’ve been blessed with the You Lift Me Up award by Deb at Mom of 3 Girls. Thank you so much, Deb, and you lift me up, too!I’m going to pass this one along to Angie at Sonflower. She has a way of bringing me back to what really matters every single time I read her blog. If you’ve never read her blog before, I highly recommend you check it out! I noticed that she already has this award, but I’m going to give it to her again. She really deserves it.

Colors of Friendship
Finally, Michelle from In the Life of a Child has blessed me with the Colors of Friendship Award. Michelle has been my blogging friend for a while now, and I always enjoy reading her Jaquie stories. Thanks, Michelle! This means a lot!I will pass this award to:

  • Kandy from Ramblings of a Redneck Woman. Our friendship predates my blogging days. In fact, she’s the one who encouraged me to start blogging in the first place.
  • Carrie from Chocolate the Other White Meat. Another friend who predates my blogging days.
  • Jaimie from Hug Twice. I first met Jaimie at her other blog, I’ve Paid For This Twice Already. She’s been a great friend as I’ve learned the ropes of personal finance blogging, and now she has started a parenting blog, and she’s got some great stories about her kiddos!

That’s all I’ve got for today! I’m off to a Christmas party tonight, and it’s a busy day on Sunday, too. So I’ll see you back here on Monday!

What Part of Thanksgiving Are You?

November 20, 2007

I found this over at As We Wait in Joyful Hope. It looked fun, so I just had to take the quiz myself.

You Are Mashed Potatoes

Oridnary, comforting, and more than a little predictable

You’re the glue that holds everyone together.

I’m on Facebook!

November 18, 2007

While stumbling through the internet this weekend, I’ve been reading a lot about Facebook.  I created a Facebook profile months ago, but I never really did anything with it.
Then today I read that one of my PF blog friends, glblguy, created a Facebook page. I figured now would be a good time to update my page.   Now, I don’t actually know what I’m doing on Facebook, but it looks like fun, and I’m a sucker for trying out things like Facebook, Stumbleupon, Cre8buzz (contact me if you want an invite), and the like.

Here’s the thing though.  I don’t have very many friends on Facebook.  So if you have a Facebook profile and you’d like to be my friend, feel free to add me.  And then feel free to give me a tutorial on how Facebook works.  :)

I hope you’ve all had a great weekend.  Be sure to check back in the morning, especially if you’re a Christian Fiction fan.  I’m doing a giveaway!

Wrapped Emotions: Things I Love

November 15, 2007

Wrapped Emotions button

After missing last week’s Wrapped Emotions assignment, because I got too busy, I’m back on the bandwagon this week! Since we’re so close to Thanksgiving, this week’s project was about things we love.

What do you love today?

For this week’s prompt you will need to set aside a small block of uninterrupted time. *gasp* You can do it. You need to do it. Allow whatever amount of time you think it will take to complete the project. Get any art supplies ready ahead of time. Open your art journal to a clean page, date it and begin listing the things you love today…or whatever day you do the project.

No typing on the computer and printing words. It should be done in your handwriting. Make it neat, make it sloppy, make it uniquely yours. Doodle the words, fine line print, bold line print, scribble. Write horizontally, diagonally, backwards, upside down. Give the page some color and pop…paint the page first…collage the page first…color the page with marker. Do not be limited by these suggestions. But WRITE the lists…no typing and printing. What is important is that you know what you love today.

One more twist…in a creative way include a wrapper from one of the things you love today (or the day you do this). Remember, if a week’s project is not completed on an actual journal page, take the time to lovingly place each one into your art journal.

I love a lot of things, so it wasn’t hard to fill up a page. I chose a pale yellow background, because it’s one of my favorite colors these days. I like the sunny color when the weather outside is gloomy.

Wrapped Emotions - The Things I Love
In the order listed, the things I love today are

Jesus

My Husband

My Daughter

My Son

Crisp Morning Air

Chocolate

Good friends

Worship Music

An engaging book

An encouraging note

Coffee

Fresh Flowers

Blogging

Wrapped Emotions

Life Itself

I say life itself, because we’re going through a really tough time right now with our finances, our schedule, and just knowing what the future is. Yet, I find that these days I have much joy. I’m thrilled that I’ve finally gotten to the place in my faith and in my life where I can rejoice in the midst of bad circumstances.

The “wrapper” I added was an encouraging postcard. It was the closest thing to a wrapper I could come up with. But this project is all about creativity, right? So if I get creative in my definition of wrapper, we can just call it good. :)

There’s still time to participate in this week’s Wrapped Emotions assignment. It’s open to everyone, so what are you waiting for? Head over to Wrapped Emotions!
