A Meme and Some Awards

December 8, 2007

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I have a whole lot of stuff to catch up on this weekend! First up, I was tagged with the “What Did You Accomplish This Week” meme by Mommy Gets Paid. She actually tagged me at my other blog, but I’m a little backlogged with posts over there, so I thought I’d answer the meme over here. So here goes.

1. What did you accomplish this past week? Well, I tweaked the design of Being Frugal.net to my satisfaction. I actually got ahead on blog posts for once. I closed an advertising deal at Being Frugal.net. And I managed to make mashed potatoes, fudge, and peanut butter fudge for my family’s Christmas party tonight.

2. Did anything not go as expected? I don’t know if there’s anything as expected in my life right now, so you might say the whole week was unexpected. :)

3. What was the highlight of your week? My husband got a call from our local Christian radio station yesterday, asking if he wanted to work part-time as the sports person. My husband lost his job in October, and working for the Christian radio station has been a big dream of his. He’s worked there in the past, but not recently. So, this will either be something fun for him, while he’s looking for a full time job, or it might work into something more permanent. You never know about these things!

4. Did anything exciting happen that you did not expect? See number three. Also, I wasn’t expecting the advertising deal, so the extra money was pretty exciting. :)

Now I’m supposed to tag five people, but it’s getting late at night (yes, I’m writing this on Friday night), and I haven’t gotten to the awards yet. So if you read this, you’re tagged. And let me know if you participate.

Now on to the awards.

Bloggers With Integrity
A while back Jenny, Live and in Color blessed me with the Bloggers With Integrity Award for staying true to my beliefs. I really consider this a great honor, because integrity means a great deal to me. Thank you, Jenny! And now I will pass it on to someone for each of the 5 categories of the award.

  • For Creativity: Melody from Slurping Life and Wrapped Emotions. Melody is always coming up with creative projects, and her photography is amazing!
  • For the Spirit of Giving: Heather from God’s Grace in Practice. She is always talking about giving to others, even in hard times.
  • For Staying True to Your Beliefs: Julie at the Surrendered Scribe. She has written many great posts about her beliefs, and I really admire her faith.
  • For Social Conscience: Min the Gap for trying to make a difference in our society, especially in the area of modesty.
  • Keeping it Real: Becky at A Walk Through the Valley. Her whole blog is about keeping it real!

You Lift Me Up
Next, I’ve been blessed with the You Lift Me Up award by Deb at Mom of 3 Girls. Thank you so much, Deb, and you lift me up, too!I’m going to pass this one along to Angie at Sonflower. She has a way of bringing me back to what really matters every single time I read her blog. If you’ve never read her blog before, I highly recommend you check it out! I noticed that she already has this award, but I’m going to give it to her again. She really deserves it.

Colors of Friendship
Finally, Michelle from In the Life of a Child has blessed me with the Colors of Friendship Award. Michelle has been my blogging friend for a while now, and I always enjoy reading her Jaquie stories. Thanks, Michelle! This means a lot!I will pass this award to:

  • Kandy from Ramblings of a Redneck Woman. Our friendship predates my blogging days. In fact, she’s the one who encouraged me to start blogging in the first place.
  • Carrie from Chocolate the Other White Meat. Another friend who predates my blogging days.
  • Jaimie from Hug Twice. I first met Jaimie at her other blog, I’ve Paid For This Twice Already. She’s been a great friend as I’ve learned the ropes of personal finance blogging, and now she has started a parenting blog, and she’s got some great stories about her kiddos!

That’s all I’ve got for today! I’m off to a Christmas party tonight, and it’s a busy day on Sunday, too. So I’ll see you back here on Monday!

Because I like historical trivia…

September 14, 2007

…and I used up all my blogging inspiration on my last post, I’m taking part in a historical tag. I read about it at Yes, They’re All Mine, Chocolate the Other White Meat, and Ramblings of a Redneck Woman. Since they’re all taking part, I’ll cave to the peer pressure.

Here’s the deal. Go to Wikipedia, type in your birthday without the year. Then post 3 events, 2 births, 2 deaths, and 1 holiday that occurred on that day. Without further ado, here’s what I came up with.

Events

  • 1958 - The Dutch Reformed Church accepts women ministers. I don’t agree with the theology, but I find this interesting, since I grew up in the Dutch Reformed Church.
  • 1967 - Mohawk Airlines Flight 40 crashes due to an incorrectly installed valve, killing all 34 on board.
  • 1985 - A terrorist bomb aboard Air India flight 182 brings the Boeing 747 down off the coast of Ireland; killing all 329 people aboard. I’m beginning to think that my birthday isn’t a good day to fly.
