Could Huckabee Win?

MikeHuckabee.com - I Like Mike!

Last year when people asked who I’d likely vote for in the next presidential election, I didn’t have an answer. The big three who would likely run were Rudi Guiliani, Mitt Romney, and John McCain. I wasn’t too thrilled with the choices. I prayed for a better option.

Earlier this year I heard of Mike Huckabee. I asked my husband about him, and Jim said he liked Huckabee, but he didn’t think he was electable. I did some research on the candidates. And my decision was made. In good conscience I couldn’t support the three front runners. So I decided that if Mike Huckabee was in the running by the Oregon primary, that’s who I would vote for.

Besides the fact that I agree with his positions on all the issues that are important to me, Huckabee is running a very positive campaign. I’ve liked his witty and intelligent responses in the debates. And it doesn’t hurt that Chuck Norris endorses him. :) So, I’ve had my eye on him.

And then I started to notice. People were starting to blog about him. I started seeing “I Like Mike” buttons on sidebars of several of the blogs I read. I told my husband to watch. That Huckabee was gaining momentum, and the mainstream media had it wrong. I thought Huckabee was electable, and not only that, I thought he’d have a real surge that took the mainstream media by surprise.

And that’s what’s happened. In one poll, Huckabee is the front runner in Iowa. In another poll, he’s within a percentage point of Hillary, the closest any candidate comes to surpassing her. And he’s gaining momentum.

I’ve got my eye on this election. America is ready for a change, it seems. I’m not certain the change they’re looking for has to do with political party. I think it has to do with politics. People are sick of politicians making slick promises, only to forget them once they get into office. People are sick of negative ads.

I think Huckabee’s positive campaign and likability set him apart from the rest of the candidates, both Republican and Democratic. And I think that’s why he’s a force to be reckoned with. That’s the kind of change America is looking for.

The question was “What would Jesus think about the death penalty?”  Make sure you listen through to the end.  That’s the best part!

Are You Concerned About Free Speech?

October 17, 2007

You should be.  41 of our elected Senators have taken time out of their day to draft a letter to Rush Limbaugh’s boss, demanding that Rush apologize for comments he made about “phony soldiers.”  Now, there is some controversy as to whether or not Rush actually made those comments, and I haven’t looked into what he did and did not say, because that’s not the point here.

Regardless of your political affiliation, you should be very concerned here.  The first amendment of the United States gives us the right of free speech, and the last time I looked “free speech” didn’t depend on whether other people like what you have to say or not.  You may not like Rush Limbaugh or agree with his point of view, but he has the right to speak.  I may not agree with Al Sharpton on a lot of issues, but he still has the right to express his viewpoint.  And that’s what makes America great.  We have the right to speak our opinion.  If we don’t like what someone is saying, we have the right to turn off the TV or the radio.  We don’t need Senators stepping in (on time paid for with tax-payer money) to shut down one of the most fundamental rights in America.

If you are concerned about Big Brother stepping on our rights to free speech, head over to Conservative Kids to find out how you can send the Senate a strong message that you don’t want them taking away America’s right to free speech.   There is a copy of the Senators’ letter at the Conservative Kids website.   Please get involved.  This is an important issue, regardless of where you stand on the political spectrum.
